Jean Barksdale Geoghegan, 78, of Chase City, Va., passed away on March 20, 2013. She was born on March 29, 1934 to the late Flournoy X. and Ellen McPhail Barksdale at Mulberry Hill in Randolph, Va. She is survived by her son, Wayde M. Geoghegan III and wife, Jane, of Glen Allen, Va.; two daughters, Nancy Chamlee and husband, Bob, of Ashland, Va., and Jeanie Geoghegan and Gary Bray of Brookneal, Va.; a brother-in-law, Richard M. Geoghegan and wife, Samantha, of Lynchburg, Va.; numerous nieces and nephews; and two special caregivers and friends, Lois and Yvonne. She was predeceased by her husband, Wayde Marshall Geoghegan Jr.; one brother, Paul Barksdale; and two sisters, Dorothy Butler and Blair Coleman. Mrs. Geoghegan was a long-time resident of Chase City and was a devoted friend and volunteer to many in the area. She was member of St. John's Episcopal Church and Fortnightly Club. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 1 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church with Reverend Paul Phillips officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Episcopal Church or the Stanton River Battlefield Park Foundation, P.O. Box 1, Randolph, Va. 23962.
