John Matthews

John Carlton Matthews, 87, of Chase City, VA passed away on October 15, 2013. He was born on September 26, 1927 to the late Drewery Edward Matthews and the late Lorrina Hyde Matthews. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gloria Inge Matthews and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister, Vivian Stainback and three brothers, William Stainback, Wallace Matthews, and Edward Matthews. Mr. Matthews is a World War II Veteran, serving in the United States Navy. He spent his life in Mecklenburg County as machinist, farmer, and businessman. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church with Reverend Kent Wise officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery with full Military Honors by Post 43. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chase City Rescue Squad, 335 Mecklenburg Drive, Chase City, VA 23924. Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
