James Hubert “Pete” Carter, 87, of Chase City, Virginia passed away on August 27, 2014. He was born on November 18, 1926 in Boydton, Virginia to the late Thomas Edward Carter and the late Lula Beck Cooper Carter. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Carter, two daughters, Mary Francis Amos and her husband Doug of Drakes Branch and Sarah Jane Farrar of Chase City, two sons, Jimmy Carter of Chase City and Danny Carter and his wife Susan of Holly Springs, NC, seven grandchildren, Dora Lee Miller, Kimberly C. Owen, Andy Lee Carter, Gary Farrar, Danny Farrar, Robert Scott Carter, and Ethan Carter, eighteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Dean Gosney, one brother, Preston Carter, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by one son-in law, Beetle Farrar, one daughter-in-law, Hilda Thompson, one great-grandson, Justin Farrar, three sisters, Nannie Carter, Odell Owen and Alma Carter and nine brothers, Richard Lee Carter, Raylond Carter, Andrew Carter, Roy Carter, Drewery Carter, Marks Carter, Fred Carter, Hugh Carter and John Carter. Mr. Carter retired from Butler Lumber Company after 58 years. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.
