Edith Toombs Lacks, 92, of Red Oak, Virginia passed away on Monday, August 17, 2015. She was born on February 13, 1923 in Virginia to the late Marilla Francis Toombs and the late Annie Maude Guthrie Toombs. Edith is survived by her children, Charlotte Smith of Red Oak, Joyce Cole and her husband Keenan of South Boston, Douglas E. Lacks and his wife Debra of Red Oak, and Linda Howard and her husband Ronnie of Saxe, six grandchildren, Sherrie Carter and her husband Jonathan, Kevin Cole and his wife Karen, Chris Lacks, David Lacks, Stacey Howard, and Rebecca Howard and one great-grandchild, Karson Cole. She is also survived by three sisters, Lillie Mae Tatum of Saxe, Doris Owen of Chase City, and Lois Mull of Chase City, three brothers, Thomas Toombs of Red Oak, Wesley Toombs of Saxe, and Garland Toombs of Red Oak, numerous nieces and nephews and her devoted caregivers. Mrs. Lacks is predeceased by her husband, Simmie Edward Lacks, one brother, James Toombs and one sister, Grace Conner. She is a member of Antioch Baptist Chuch in Red Oak. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 3 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
