Bernard Smith

Bernard Lee Smith, age 74, of Red Oak, Virginia departed this life peacefully on Saturday, December 5, 2015. He was born on December 16, 1940 in Charlotte County, Virginia. He is the son of the late St. Clair Harold Smith and the late Olivia Pearle Jeter Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 55 years, JoAnn Puryear Smith, one daughter, Terri S. Carter, two grandchildren, Amy S. Hite (Jonathan), JoAnn M. Smith, one great-granddaughter, Riley Renee Hite, two sisters, Norma S. Wirt (Kenneth) of Red Oak and Shirley S. Gilbert of Lynchburg. He is predeceased by one son, Darryl J. Smith. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church in Red Oak. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wylliesburg RS2 Station, Hwy 15, Wylliesburg, VA 23976 or the Barksdale Cancer Foundation, 3676 JEB Stuart Hwy, Red Oak, VA 23964.
