Katherine Vaughan Dickerson, age 95, of Chase City, VA, affectionately known as “Mema,” passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2020.
She was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on October 29, 1924 to the late George and Sadie Vaughan.
Katherine was the co-owner and operator of the Dairy Freeze in Wylliesburg, VA for many years. She was also a former employee at Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Red Oak, VA and a life-time member of the Chase City Ladies Auxiliary. She loved and enjoyed cooking and working at the Bingo Hall.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John E. “Buster” Dickerson; two sons, Wayne Dickerson and Donnie Dickerson; granddaughter, Karen Holloway; and grandson, Steven Wayne Dickerson.
Katherine is survived by her daughter, Nancy Jones (Wayne) of Midlothian, VA; grandchildren, Tim Newcomb (Patty), Jed Dickerson (Kellie), Tabitha Searles (Brian), Mandy Woodfin, and Katie Sansbury (Joseph); eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and her special caretaker and friend, Debra Richardson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Antioch Baptist Church, 6700 Barnesville Hwy, Red Oak, VA 23964. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
