Angie Iola Leigh Boyd

Angie Iola Leigh Boyd, age 85, answered the call on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Chase City Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on May 3, 1939, to the late James Edmond Leigh and the late Edmonia Gayles Leigh. Angie was better known to family and friends as Iola, and was fondly called Weedie by her nieces and nephews.

Iola was baptized and joined Bethlehem Baptist Church at a young age, and was an active member and a devoted usher. Upon graduation from West End High School in 1956, she moved away seeking better employment opportunities. Her hobbies included playing the piano and sewing.

Iola trained and later worked as a cosmetologist, and held positions in various other lines of work. She met and later married Jackie Boyd in 1964. To this union two sons were born. After several years she and her sons relocated to Chase City.

Other than parents, Iola was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Mshari Russell; two brothers, Arthur and Jack Leigh; and one sister, Ruby Leigh Boyd.

She leaves to cherish her memory sons, Reginald Boyd of Chase City, and Rodney Boyd of Raleigh, NC; one granddaughter, LeKeshia Bouldin of South Hill; two great grandsons, A’zari and Lazarius Carden of Buckingham County; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Chase City, VA with Reverend Dr. Ricky Lee officiating. Viewing and visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. also at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Interment will follow at New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
