Charles Ray DeJarnette, Jr.

March 25, 1957 — March 17, 2025

Red Oak, Virginia

Charles Ray DeJarnette, Jr., passed away March 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and kindness. Born on March 25, 1957, Ray was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and a true friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles "Jimmie" DeJarnette, and is survived by his beloved mother, Jane DeJarnette, and sister, Rita Fore (Robert).

For 48 years, Ray shared a beautiful life with his wife, Mitzi DeJarnette. Their love was an example of unwavering commitment, partnership, and joy. Together, they built a strong and loving family, raising three wonderful children: Melissa Chumney and her husband Jonathan, Matt DeJarnette and his wife Kristen, and Mitch DeJarnette and his wife Sara. He was a proud and doting grandfather to Addison Tharpe, Bryce DeJarnette, Aubrey Chumney, Hudson DeJarnette, Emerson Chumney, and Elizabeth DeJarnette. His grandchildren brought him immense happiness, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

Ray, or “Radar” as many knew him, had many passions in life, including drag racing, hunting, and cooking. He was especially known for his homemade BBQ sauce, which became a staple in family gatherings and a reflection of the warmth and care he put into everything he did. His love for the outdoors and the thrill of the race track brought him endless joy and adventure.

Beyond his personal passions, Ray took great pride in his career as a certified arborist. He spent many dedicated years with Lewis Tree Service before joining the family at Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative. The many friendships he formed over the years through his work were incredibly important to him, and he valued the camaraderie and connections he built along the way.

To know Ray was to know kindness, generosity, and unwavering loyalty. His presence brought comfort, his laughter filled rooms, and his wisdom guided many. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
