CL Garner

Cephas Lawson “CL” Garner, Jr., age 76, of Chase City, Virginia passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023. He was born September 24, 1946 and was the son of the late Cephas Lawson Garner, Sr. and the late Dorothy Valentine Garner. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Garner and his sister, Linda Ray Proulex. 

CL is survived by his wife, Dora Walker Garner; two sons, Benjamin Garner of Chase City and John Garner (Jamie) of Chase City; two granddaughters, Josalyn Garner and Izabella Garner; and his sister, JoAnn Wagstaff (Robert). 

He retired as Manager from Verizon. After retirement, he enjoyed groundskeeping for the Chase City Country Club. CL was a member of Black Branch Baptist Church, member of the Chase City Masonic Lodge No. 119, former member of the Chase City Jaycees and a former member of the Chase City Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a former board member for the South Central Fair and enjoyed working during fair week. He loved gardening. 

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow in Woodland Cemetery in Chase City. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
