John Govoni, Jr., 89, of Chase City, Virginia formerly of New Jersey, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024. He was born May 22, 1935 in Camden, New Jersey and was the son of the late Giovanni Govoni and the late Mary Tosti Govoni.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dino Govoni.
John is survived by his wife, Mary Crump Govoni; his children, Cheryl Colangelo (Dennis) of Belmont, NC and Michelle Koch (James) of Haddon Heights, NJ and Mark Govoni (Kathy) of Berlin, NJ: grandchildren, Craig Colangelo (Julie), Jennifer Colangelo, Michael Colangelo, Melissa Borkowski (Rafal), Thomas Kane, Jr., Kristin Kane, Aimee Govoni, and Nadine Govoni and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his step-daughters, Kimberly W. Fuller (Shawn Rickman) of Clarksville, Beverly W. Eichman (Timothy) of Florida, and Kristie W. Newcomb (Scott) of Chase City; step-grandchildren, Katie Wallace (Richard), Kara Jo Smith, Kevin Fuller, Alex Eichman (Raffy), Hannah Eichman, Nathan Newcomb, and Sydney Newcomb; three step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Govoni (Linda) of Ocean City, New Jersey; sister-in-law, Ann Govoni; numerous nieces and nephews; and devoted friend, Stan Betzold.
John was a United States Army Veteran and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in New Jersey. He was a member and elder of King Street Church in Keysville. He enjoyed building and displaying model trains. He was an avid bowler and participated in multiple bowling leagues locally and in New Jersey. John and Mary both loved traveling to the southwest and also enjoyed collecting Indian memorabilia.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the caregivers, Amber Hawk, Destiny Townes, Jasmine Townes, Donna Owen, and Linda Hudgins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor David Malcolm will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
