Norman Douglas Carter, 91, of Chase City, Virginia formerly of Melbourne, Florida passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023.
He was born February 25, 1932 and was the son of the late Herman Carter and the late Willie Crenshaw Carter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wayne Carter and Carl Carter; his dear friend, Charlie Fox; and brother-in-law, Benny Gilliam.
Norman is survived by his wife, Louise Carter; daughter, Karen L. Schieber of Orlando, FL; son, Norman Douglas Carter, Jr. of Chase City; grandchildren, Nicholas Ryan, Brittany Schieber, and James “J.D.” Schieber, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Aydan “A.J.” Schieber, Derek Adorno, and Bryce Adorno. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Knowling; numerous nieces and nephews; and life long friend, Lewis Ashworth.
He was a member of Mount Horeb Baptist Church in Chase City and a member of the Florida Elks Club. He was a bridge construction superintendent for Wiley N. Jackson and several other companies until his retirement. He lived a long, fulfilled life and was a great son, brother, husband, dad and granddad.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 3 p.m. at the Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Grover Cleveland officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery in Chase City. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
