Stanley Conner

January 10, 1942 — August 3, 2023

Chase City, Virginia

Stanley R. Conner of Chase City, Virginia went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 3, 2023. The world has lost a man of great character and our family has lost a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

Stanley was born on January 10, 1942 to Charlie Washington Conner and Sarah Morris Conner and was a loving son and brother. He was a thoughtful, patient man who laughed and loved easily. Stanley enjoyed working with his hands and was a talented carpenter, mechanic and journeyman. He took pleasure from working on engines and building things. He proudly built his own home in Clover and his workshop in Chase City and was always happy to help his family and others with their home projects big and small. His opinion and guidance were valued by many and he was always quick to listen and offer help.

Stanley was a loving husband and father and a wonderful granddaddy and Papa to his grandchildren. A man of strong faith, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Chase City where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Chase City Lions Club for many years. His faith was evident these last few years as he fought cancer with grace, humor, bravery and a peace that shone as an example to those around him.

He was preceded in death by his father Charlie Washington Conner, his mother Sarah Jane Morris Conner, a wife Grace Toombs Conner, a grandson Luke Cash, two sisters and a brother.

Stanley will be greatly missed by his loving wife and best friend of 41 years, Joyce Conner. He is also survived by his children, Kathy Long (Ray), Sandra Taylor (James), Wanda Higgins, and Nancy Cash (Ronnie); 11 grandchildren, Stacey Allen (David), Morgan Long, Gray Taylor, E. Taylor, Caroline McCormick, Conner McCormick, David Higgins, Blake Avery (Daniel), Brooke Cash, Bailey Cash, and Blair Cash; and 4 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Allen, Patrick Allen, Evyn Avery and Harrison Avery.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery in Chase City, Virginia. The family will receive family and friends following the service for a reception at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Chase City and all other times at Stanley and Joyce’s home in Chase City.

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
