Tommy Mitchell

September 13, 1979 — February 27, 2025

Chase City, Virginia

With heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Tommy Mitchell on February 27, 2025 at the age of 45. He was a proud and loving father, a devoted soulmate, and a man whose heart found its home in nature and near the water. His love for his two children was immeasurable, and he embraced not only his own but also many others who needed guidance, support and a steady hand.

Beneath his tough exterior was a fiercely loyal and compassionate soul. He had a heart of gold, he was a natural caregiver and had an unwavering dedication to those he loved, whether they were family, friends or the animals he cherished-especially his beloved dogs, Bella and Roscoe.

An athlete through and through, he excelled at baseball and any other thing he set his mind to. Those who truly knew him recognized his intelligence, his kindness and his ability to make others feel safe and cared for.

Tommy’s greatest joy in life was his children, Layla and Christopher. He lived to make them smile and giggle. Whether it was exploring the outdoors, riding their first roller coaster or sharing stories, he poured his heart out into being their father. He was their protector, their teacher and their biggest fan. He was always encouraging them to embrace life’s adventures and to be good people. They meant the world to them.

One of Tommy’s greatest sources of pride was his mother and all that she had accomplished. He adored her and carried a deep admiration for her strength and resilience.

Tommy had just begun his journey as a grandfather, excited to share laughter and love with his granddaughter, Maeve Louise Mitchell. Though his time with her was far too short, his legacy will live on through her, his two children, Layla and Christopher and all those whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his best friend and lifelong partner, Jessica Norwood; his children whom he adored, Christopher Mitchell and Layla Mitchell; his granddaughter, Maeve Lousie Mitchell; his mother, Genie Ingram Mitchell; his sister, Sara Mitchell; his special nephew, Hunter McAden; nephew, Elan Flowers; niece, Madeline Flowers. He also leaves behind Jamarion Ragsdale and Travis Chapman who were both special to him. He is preceded in death by his father, Keith Mitchell; his maternal grandparents, Doris and Walter Ingram and his paternal grandparents, Tom and Louise Mitchell.

A private service will be held at a later date. In honor of Tommy, take a moment to step outside, take a walk, and look up at the night sky. He found peace in nature, and we hope you find a little bit of him there too.
